Ephemerella subvaria is one of the most storied hatches in American fly fishing lore and this soft hackle wet fly pattern is designed to fish wet, especially if the fish are being a bit picky on the surface. The wet fly pattern called the Flymph was reputedly coined in the forties before the term emerger came into parlance. Whatever the origins, these flies work well and are wonderful to fish. Bead head soft hackles are the best wet flies you can fish, at least in the opinion of many anglers.
