Hise's Limnephilidae Caddis Larva
Limnephilidae is a family of caddisflies with about 100 genera. They belong to the main lineage of case-constructing caddisflies, the Integripalpia or tube-case caddisflies. The Limnephilidae is one of the most species-rich Trichoptera families of northern temperate regions. Many of its genera are important, but the western genus Dicosmoecus (the Giant Orange Sedge or October Caddis) is especially important to trout fisherman. Limnephilidae contains so many species that it is difficult to generalize about them all. In fact, LaFontaine commented on the task in Caddisflies: "The fact that fly fishermen need broad principles of biology, not a collection of exceptions, makes it difficult to handle this family."
