Stonfo Elite Disc Drag Bobbin

This machined bobbin has a hardened steel tip insert and countersunk feed that will allow thread to glide through the tube for threading and tying. The drag control has a large adjustment zone for fine tuning thread tension to your personal liking. One of our best selling bobbins.

    Average bobbin holder

This is my first bobbin holder that was anything more than just your basis device. The feel is OK in the hand and the drag can be set from very light to thread breaking tight. The drag system is very sensitive to small adjustments so it takes me a few attempts to get a tension I am happy with. The retaining screw/cap is not captive in any way and I have dropped many time already changing bobbin over. There are a couple of washers between the threaded retaining cap and the bushing which contacts the bobbin - what their function is I do not know. The removable bushing which contacts the bobbin does not rotate (there is a flat on the stem that goes through bobbin and a corresponding flat on the bushing) so it is friction between the bushing and bobbin that creates the tension. Not friction between bushing and retaining cap. Maybe these washers are meant to make it look like the disc drag on a reel!. The tube end closest to the bobbin has a fairly square edge which may cause a problem with rubbing your thread if you have the tension set tight - I've not had any issues yet with this but haven't used the holder that much either. The tube itself is not polished nor ceramic. Not being ceramic isn't a big issue for me but I would have like a smoother internal finish. Have spent years controlling thread tension with my hand against the bobbin where it is fairly easy and quick to adjust tension as you tie it can be a bit annoying to have to fiddle with the drag to do some loose wraps before then increasing the tension again (as you often have to when tying in deer hair wings etc). Is it worth the money?, maybe. Has it improved my tying - not at all. Average product in my opinion
